Welcome to the 6th Grade Earth Science Webpage
Bridgeway Island Elementary
While Mrs. Rooney is out enjoying her first months as a mom, Miss Lassen has stepped in to try and fill her wonderful, teaching shoes. This page is created and update by Miss Lassen, teacher of 6th Earth Science of Bridgeway Island Elementary.
In order to make the home-school connection stronger, students and parents will find resources such as class lecture notes, powerpoints, state standards, homework, quiz and test review, as well as the Table of Contents for the Science Notebooks.
6th Grade Earth Science pertains to basics of Geology. The word means "study of the Earth". Geology deals with the composition of Earth materials, Earth structures, and Earth processes. It is also concerned with the organisms of the planet and how the planet has changed over time. Geologists search for fuels and minerals, study natural hazards, and work to protect Earth's environment.
This website is a work in-progress and will only be improved as time goes on.

Chapter 7: Earthquakes
Big Idea- Earthquakes results from sudden motions along breaks in Earth's crust and can affect land forms and societies.
Section 1: Sudden motions along breaks in Earth's crust can release energy in the form of seismic waves.
Section 2: Studying the properties of seismic waves can help scientists determine an earthquake's starting point, strength, and intensity.
Section 3: Studying seismic activity can help scientists forecast earthquakes and reduce the damage that earthquakes cause.
